Who’s Using AI for Mental Health Support in Canada?

Our national population polling data shows differences in how Canadians of various ages and backgrounds use AI and digital tools for mental health support, as well as variations in trust in these tools across groups.

Key Findings:

  • AI mental health tool use decreases sharply with age, with young adults reporting rates nearly six times higher than older adults.

  • Newcomers to Canada are almost twice as likely to use AI mental health tools compared to long-term residents.

  • Racialized Canadians report higher engagement with AI mental health tools (17%) than non-racialized Canadians (11%).

  • 2SLGBTQIA+ Canadians use AI mental health tools at rates roughly 1.5 times those of non-2SLGBTQIA+ respondents.

  • 17% of Canadians trust AI mental health tools to provide safe support.
