Who we are

Mental Health Research Canada (MHRC) is an innovative national charitable organization that is dedicated to improving the lives of Canadians by advancing mental health knowledge in an unique but important way: we ensure the fulsome engagement of people with lived experience throughout the entire research process.  We pride ourselves on being nimble, collaborative, forward-looking and committed to excellence in all that we do.

With the onset of the recent pandemic, there has never been a more important time for mental heath in Canada.  More Canadians are struggling with their mental health than ever before. According to our research, more than a tenth of Canadians have thought about suicide in the past year; a quarter of Canadians report experiencing the effects of mental health symptoms in their day-to-day life; and one seventh of Canadians are likely to have symptoms of moderate to severe anxiety (see more striking data in our national polling reports).

With this growing mental health crisis, MHRC’s work has been valuable in advancing mental health in Canada. Our ability to do research differently has allowed us to share opportunities and knowledge with stakeholders who enhance mental health services, develop policies, improve practices, and advocate for increased capacities for Canadians.
