Who We Are

Insights to Action

Who We are:

Making strategic decisions about where to focus and invest to improve the mental health and wellbeing of Canadians is complex. Perspectives are many, evidence is uneven, and clarity can be hard to find.

Mental Health Research Canada is a national independent charity that provides that clarity. We make research easy to understand – and we want everyone to have easy access to current data about Canadian’s mental health.

We generate robust data and actionable insights to help Canadian decision-makers, providers and policy leaders direct attention and resources where it will make the greatest impact. Through continuous national population monitoring, action ready rapid reporting, and empowering community and evidence-based research, we analyze mental health needs, access to supports, and lived experiences across the country. We then mobilize these insights to inform policy, advocacy, guide investments, and catalyze collaboration and action to improve mental health care, supports and outcomes across Canada.

Our Three Primary Roles:

  1. Gather and analyze data and evidence that continuously take the pulse on Canadians’ mental health and generate meaningful insights about how people access support and their needs across the country.

  2. Mobilize insights to drive collaboration and action, and influence policy and investments across the sector to improve mental health

  3. Empower community-based research that drives change where it is needed most
