Research impacts

From investment to real-world impact

We invest in research to help strong ideas move forward and generate evidence that can contribute beyond an individual project.

Our approach brings together researchers, communities, people with lived and living experience and funding partners. By combining early investment with co-funding and collaboration, we help research respond to real needs, build stronger connections between research and practice and create opportunities for knowledge to move into action.

Research shaped by real needs

We support research that brings academic expertise together with community knowledge, service experience and lived and living experience. This helps ensure the work is rigorous, relevant and grounded in the realities of the people and communities it is intended to serve.

What our investment enables

Research capacity

Our funding supports both established researchers and emerging research talent, helping people develop the evidence, experience and relationships that can carry their work forward.

Early investment can create larger impact

Since 2019, $955,000 in seed funding through our research programs, including $245,000 invested directly by MHRC, has helped drive more than $12 million into mental health research.

Supporting Indigenous-led research

Through targeted funding and partnerships, we support Indigenous researchers and community-led projects grounded in Indigenous priorities, knowledge and lived experience.

This work helps strengthen Indigenous research capacity, reduce barriers to participation and support research that can contribute meaningful and lasting value for Indigenous communities across Canada.

Built through partnership

Meaningful collaboration is central to how we create impact.

We work with funders, researchers, academic institutions, community organizations, governments and people with lived and living experience to combine resources, strengthen research and respond to shared priorities.

Co-funding helps extend the reach of individual investments, while collaboration helps ensure that the research itself remains connected to the people and communities it is intended to serve.
