Who we are

Mental Health Research Canada (MHRC) is a national charitable organization that is dedicated to improving the lives of all Canadians by advancing mental health knowledge. We pride ourselves on being nimble, collaborative, forward-looking and committed to excellence in all that we do.

We advance new knowledge that is focused on practical outcomes for Canadians. We also share existing knowledge to encourage stakeholders to implement best practices.

The need was great before the reality of COVID-19: 1 in 11 Canadians dies by suicide each day; 500,000 employed Canadians miss work due to mental health issues each week; and 1 in 5 Canadians experiences a mental health problem or issue each year.

Now, with this growing mental health crisis, there is an even greater need for our strategically collaborative approach:

  • We listen to stakeholders.

  • We collaborate with partners.

  • We fill knowledge gaps and avoid duplication.
