Supporting Mental Well-being and Savouring at Work with Personalized AI Generated Images

Workplace wellness programs can have limited reach when participation is low or services focus mainly on responding to more serious difficulties. Molly’s project investigates how digital tools might support everyday mental health promotion and prevention instead.

The study centres on “savouring”: noticing, recalling and appreciating positive experiences. While photographs can help people revisit meaningful moments, employees may not have images that capture positive aspects of their working lives. The project explores whether generative AI could help address that gap.

Approach and methodology

The research explores using generative AI to create personalized images of meaningful workplace experiences and integrating them into familiar technologies, such as digital calendars.

It will investigate whether this approach encourages positive emotions and the adoption of preventive well-being strategies, without assuming that the intervention is effective.

Expected contribution

The project aims to inform the design of health-related applications and digital interventions that better fit the rhythms of work. It could point to new ways of making preventive mental well-being practices more accessible, engaging and personally relevant.

About the researcher

At the time of her published project biography, Molly Stewart was a master’s student in Computer Science at the University of Victoria, specializing in human-computer interaction.

Her research interests include designing technology that supports mental health and well-being by making room for creativity, playfulness and positive experiences. She hopes to contribute to the development of digital tools that bring more joy into everyday life.
